I had been attending animation conventions for a few years by this time. There were a few attendees that I got to know and enjoy very much. They had suggested that I play and do fanart for a game called Team Fortress. My husband and I tried to play it but never got the damn thing to work for us. BUT…I did Youtube (slang verbs, got to love them) it. Thank gawd for geeks. I watched a multitude game play and story clips from it, found it to be the funniest thing I had seen in a while and had no problem immediately making lego versions of the little buggers. To date they rank as my favorites.

Each finish piece were sold as laminated badges and bookmarks. They were very popular.

UNICORNS ASSEMBLE!

This particular series is very close to my heart. I have been a fan since the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime series launched almost 8 years ago. Since, I have been reading the manga (WHICH IS AWESOME ~<3 ) and currently looking forward the last volume this December. End of the world, baby!   >.<

When I created the 2 images above, I wanted to reference the “gate of truth” (which is specific to each character) and the physical price they paid for that knowledge. I used the double helix/DNA motif on the characters’ limbs to show what was lost. For example, Edward or Ed lost his right arm and left leg. I thought originally thought I lost all the layered files of these 2 when my harddrive failed and had to reformat. BUT, as I started to setup all the images to be posted to this site, I found in a folder (that had nothing to do with FMA art) something very unexpected. Wha’la!!! There were the layered files intact. (Golden rays of light hit me in the face)

Naruto as hamsters, was the instigator for all this. I don’t know why I thought hamsters but it made me laugh and I couldn’t stop. The lego came next. They were originally designed like the Bleach series for an 1 inch button. Those did horribly at anime conventions. The art area was just too small. So I made little 1.5 by 3 inch bookmarks. PERFECTO!

Another Halloween kimono I wore to a street parade and at work. I based this one on a very old arcade game called Galaga (most favorite to play when I was a child). I absolutely adore the final product but not many people seem to know what to think of it in and out of cosplay circles. Whatever.

Making pains:

1. Hand painted the logo to both sides of the left sleeve
2. Created vector (Illustrator) versions of all ships, achievement badges and key words like HISCORE, 1UP and 2UP
3. Printed designs on interface transfers
4. Iron interface transfer designs to fabric
5. Cut out all ships and attached to fabric
6. hand painted gun fire
7. laminated in 7mm pouches for ships depicting getting captured (which is the best part of the game). Cut out. Attached rings and then attached earring hoop. Perfect really.

Learning pains:

1. Jammed a copier because the setting wasn’t right for transfers and melted the plastic within the machine. I will, for now on, PAY someone to make the transfers which good luck finding someone.
2. Iron on 2-sided transfers does not stick to polyester fabric (main kimono). Had to seal the ships with black puff paint. Worked well.
3. Too many friggin ships, over 40.
4. Measure!!!!!
